Why I write
I love to write. It is a form of prayer for me.
It slows me down, makes me think more deliberately as I form ideas into words. It helps me articulate my inspiration and intuition and documents parts of my life. It helps me to clarify my prayer and gives me a way of looking objectively at my ideas.
But then when I decide to write to someone, that someone has entered into my writing space. My thoughts encircle them, as I write about what they would like to hear and to know. It is a deliberate and thoughtful conversation made for two.
When I started writing a blog, I found I had a larger audience to write for and a larger conversation. Instead of writing to one other, I was writing to all humanity. This audience was wide and largely unknown, but I felt each blog post was a prayer connecting me to a larger world of thinkers and ideas. I felt a growing commitment to pray and write, knowing that quite literally, my prayers were going out to the world, ready for any listening heart. Soon, like rain starting to fall, I got a comment, then more comments. Soon, I got a call about one of my posts and a request for help through prayer in Christian Science. And then, another call in response to a post, and then another, and another. This started happening with greater frequency. In fact, it is what got me started in the public practice of Christian Science healing. It launched me into my career as a full time Christian Science practitioner and healer.
In the fall of 2016, I joined the editorial staff of my Church's international magazines - pioneers in magazines of reader-generated content since 1883. I worked for and wrote for an audience of readers and writers who are keenly focused on understanding the healing power of God, Love, and devoted to humanity's spiritual progress. My writing was all about a continuing conversation with writers and readers throughout the world who are committed to spread healing and apply healing to every single conceivable element in the human condition. We are all answering humanity's larger questions: How far, fast, and thorough is God's love? Is it possible to find healing EVERYWHERE? The writers of our Church's magazines answer -"Yes! Come and read." Writers act as reporters of the Christ activity on their beat, and as witnesses to the spiritual evidence of good already at hand.
”Love enriches the nature, enlarging, purifying and elevating it" ( Science and Health 57: 23). Writing is just like that. I encourage you all to join the chorus of voices who write and pray for all humanity. Have you experienced healing as taught in Christian Science?
